To promote development of infrastructure, i have decided to run a monthly road-building competition. Entries will be ranked based on a point system:- Every tile of road length (regardless of width) - 1 point
- Every tile of bridge length as part of the road - 5 points
- Guard tower near the road - 50 points
- Fountain/well near the road - 10 points
The top 3 entries by total number of points will receive the following prizes:- 1st place - Uniquely named fantastic 99ql shovel + 20s
- 2nd place - Uniquely named supreme 99ql shovel + 10s
- 3rd place - Uniquely named rare 99ql shovel + 5s
Rules:- All roads built after Walden launch (March 6th), on both servers, are eligible for entry.
- Entries must be submitted before March 31, 23:59 UTC. The winners will be announced in the first days of April.
- Roads must be at least 2 tiles wide. When going through thick forest - sand or moss the sides.
- Roads must look like roads, not like someone paved the side of a hill. Flatten dem borders.
- Towers, fountains and wells must be clearly visible from the road to count.
- Fountains and wells must be on water tiles to count.
- No landbridges! If your road crosses water - build a proper bridge that doesn't impede ship movement.
- In case of group projects, the prize will be handed to the player that submitted it, who will be responsible for distributing the prize to the group (as agreed by them).
Entry submission:Post in this thread. Include your character name, a screenshot of the map with the road marked on it, the length of the road + number of towers/wells/fountains (this will be verified by me).

>>""Roads must look like roads, not like someone paved the side of a hill. Flatten dem borders.""I agree I have seen too many terrible roads, I'd like to see server admins have an additional "bonus points" for most professional looking road, with carefully graduated slopes not where each incline is a completely different slope than the ones before and after. Going on those on a fast wagon feels like riding a bumpy roller coaster. Or even list the top three roads for the points above and even let community add " community bonus points" on which was "most professionally built road" and/or "most community useful location", again as a BONUS to the points added above, no one factor alone wins but rather a consolidation of points overall. Also, remember many people may NOT be happy about a large road too close to their deed, it's nicer to have major roads that skirt a respectful distance from deeds and let the deeds connect to the roads if they want, rather than try to "connect each dot" on the map by paving alongside the deeds. Many deeds might be planning to expand once they have more funds, and running a road alongside them may be at odds with their settlement expansion plans. letting them connect to the highway when and how they choose will cause less local drama. Not a rule, just my personal opinion/suggestion. PS: also some people just don't like roads i am one but I suspect my remoter location will make it less attractive to the Civil Engineers among us. In other words, you will not be doing me a favor (and probably get on my Grumpy List) by building a road to connect me to the world at large.

Hi, we (Alessabyss and me - Nova) built a road from Willow Creek to the bridge near the public mine. Still need to plant flowers and moss on the borders but this should be done within a day or 2. People added guard towers along it but it wasn't us. How do I add a screenshot of the road? (I can't see an option to upload an image). Thanks

When you do a reply (using the reply button, not the quick reply window in the post itself), there's an add attachment button in the top right.

Here's the submission from me and Crisaria. The point counting in the image may not be acurate, but I'm pretty sure you guys will verify anyway. I just wanted an estimation of our final score.

Looks like the uniquely named shovels had one problem, they didn't have "shovel" in the name which makes WU client not show slopes with it activated (it literally checks for "shovel" in the item name).
I've fixed Crisaria's shovel, i'll fix the others when i catch you online.
