so a bit ago someone was talking about chest they found and some message me say they used esp mod. not knowing what they're talking about i looked into it. it didn't explain much so i tested it. though i like some aspects of it (like my villagers might not lose me so easily when were hunting) it did feel cheaty to me. so i was wondering if the esp mod could be broken down into different spells with appropriate costs and cooldowns for the different effects.
(also if someone could please tell me how to remove said client mod)

not sure whether bdew wants to get into a pattern of deciding what people can do (but eventually he might get pushed into that) but there is an anti cheat mod by nappy that supposedly prevents ESP mpd from working? forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/141244-rampant-cheating-on-wu/&do=findComment&comment=1451219Since you asked how to remove it, I googled the ESP mod and it looks like you can just look for a file named wurmesp.properties and rename that file to wurmesp.disabled if you want it off. Deleting that file should act like an "uninstall". I am happy using only compass & minimap mods, but any time people get competitive about multiplayer games, you can presume many will get tempted into shortcuts. I am not sure bdew has time and energy and interest to be a policeman, but that's likely a decision he has already thought through and formed a decision about.

Well there are already existing mechanics in wurm to do most of the "esp" stuff - prospecting, reveal creatures, etc.
The one big thing missing is treasure chests, but i'm not sure adding a spell for them is a good idea. I'm afraid it will ruin the sense of exploration (for those that don't use ESP and such) and turn it into a "reveal chest" grind.
I don't mind people using it for veins (because honestly, the prospecting system in wurm is annoying, i use a version of livemap that shows all the veins myself) and limiting data on creatures, etc. available to the client will also limit legit players.

thank you for the info. im not saying it should be banned i just thought i would make for neat spells or add on to spells already in place as long as it's aloud on the server who am i to speak against them, i shouldn't force others to my ideals. the main aspect that's different about it from what is in place is that it's visual rather then text data based saving time. i used the reveal creature when hunting olives to avoid uniques on past servers i think i would like the veins thing more if the range was not so wide don't think i'll ever be a fan of the chest part cause it takes too much from the sense of accomplishment for me and without that feeling it might as well be a rock
